485 Visa March 2024 Changes
As part of Australia’s new immigration policy, the 485 visa is undergoing a series of changes as it focuses on international applicants with the skills Australian employers need.
Temporary Graduate visa applications lodged on or after 23 March 2024 have an increased English requirement:
- A minimum IELTS score of 6.5 (or equivalent) with a minimum score of 5.5 for each component of the test (reading, writing, speaking and listening).
- Hong Kong and UK Overseas (BNO) passport holders do not need to meet this minimum English language requirement. The IELTS standard for this group was set at 6.0 (or equivalent), with a minimum score of 5.0 for each part of the test (reading, writing, speaking and listening).
- The test validity window for all Temporary Graduate visa applications decreases from three years to one year. Applicants must provide evidence that they have completed an English language test no more than one year immediately before the date of the visa application.
